Valdosta, GA -- The family of Kendrick Johnson , the teen who was found dead inside a high school gym mat earlier this year are in court trying to get more answers about their son's death.

Kendrick Johnson's death was ruled accidental by the Lowdnes County Sheriff's Office.  Investigators concluded the teen suffocated while trying to retrieve a gym shoe in the mat.

"We know that it was going to be this hard because this is Lowndes County, Lowndes County they are not use to families fighting against them, " said Kenneth Johnson after attorneys explained their strategy to get answers for the family.

Tuesday, legal paperwork was filed asking a judge to require the county coroner along with a jury of six to review all the evidence in the teen's death.

The official finding is accidental, but the family had a second autopsy done which concluded foul play was likely involved.

Another battle is being fought to have the school district and the sheriff's office release what security cameras captured inside the gym on January 10.

"If the sheriff's investigation is correct and he climbed into the wrestling mat, we will see it with out own eyes, but if that is not the case, as we suspect it is not, then we will see that," said  attorney Benjamin Crump.

A hearing on releasing  surveillance tape is set for later this month.  A judge has thirty days to schedule a hearing on the request for a coroners inquest.
