JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man was shot and killed following a robbery at a Northside convenience store Sunday night.
A suspect allegedly robbed at gunpoint the Price Rite Food Store at 10203 Lem Turner Road at 8:34 p.m., according to Jacksonville Chief of Investigations Annie Smith.
The suspect was described as a male wearing a black shirt, black pants and a ski mask, who was about 5-feet-8-inches tall.
A man police believed matched the description of the suspect was spotted a short time later by officers in an unmarked car on Broward Road.
Officers confronted the suspect who then ran, according to Chief Smith.
Officer M.W. Crawford allegedly ordered the suspect to surrender, instead the suspect allegedly ignored commands and attempted to jump a fence. Officers also allegedly spotted a gun in the suspects hand at this time.
Crawford fired several shots, striking the suspect an undetermined amount of times
The suspect was shot and killed on scene and a gun was recovered by JSO investigators.
Crawford is on administrative leave per JSO protocol.
The suspect was identified during a press conference Monday at 11 a.m. as Jarmel Anthony Cosby, 28.
Cosby has been previously arrested for resisting arrest, aggravated battery upon a pregnant woman, and grand theft auto.
