SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. - A dance instructor who teaches at multiple dance schools in Orange and Seminole counties was arrested on lewd and lascivious behavior charges, deputies said.
The girl told her mother that when they arrived at her home, Prater parked the car and asked her for a hug, a news release said.
"When you think about your little girl around something like that, it's scary," one father said. "No one has access to our kids at the studio but us, there's no way."
Investigators said when the girl leaned over to hug him, Prater kissed, grabbed and touched her inappropriately.
The victim resisted and was able to gather her things and exit the car, officials said.
Prater is being held on $10,000 bond.
Prater teaches at several schools in Seminole and Orange counties, and he was arrested just before he was about to teach a hip hop class at New Dimensions in Oviedo.
The owner of Edge Dance in Lake Mary said he taught there for four years. The studio sent out a letter to parents letting them know the studio has a zero-tolerance policy for the behavior and that Prater was let go.
"I cannot believe it. We've known Jonathon for several years now, and for what we see him do here, he's professional. There's absolutely no indication that anything like this would ever have happened. It's absolutely shocking," said Barb Everett, from Edge Dance.
The judge told Prater he is to have no contact with the minor and no unsupervised contact with children under 18, and he can't come within 1,500 feet of the four dance studios.
Investigators said they are looking into the possibility of additional victims and are asking anyone with information to call the Seminole County Sheriff's Office at 407-665-6650.
