Fire claims the life of Lake City Police Officer

UPDATE 11/1/2013:  Funeral services for Brandi Jackson will be held at Christ Central Ministries located at 217 SW Dyal Avenue. A viewing is scheduled for November 4 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the funeral is Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. 

LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A Lake City police officer died from a house fire early Thursday morning, according to the Lake City Police Department.

The LCPD responded to the home of LCPD Investigator David Greear at approximately 1:02 a.m. to a "fully involved" structure fire on Dante Ter.

Investigator Greear escaped the fire with minor injuries, however, LCPD Officer Brandi Jackson, who was also in the home, died from her injuries.

LCPD Officer Brandi Jackson had been with the department for 2 months and 2 weeks. Investigator Greear is a 14-year veteran of the department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's office, Columbia County Sheriff's Office and Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
