JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Employees of the tax-payer owned utility company in Jacksonville are about to get some hefty bonus checks.

The Florida Times-Union reports JEA will pay out $1.9 million in employee bonuses in mid-November. The bonuses reward employees for reaching customer-satisfaction and cost-cutting goals, resulting in more than $31 million in savings over the last fiscal year.

It is the second year in a row for the pay-for-performance program, which was halted during the economic downturn in 2007. The newspaper reports that last year the agency gave employees $1,250 bonuses at a cost of around $2.4 million. They say the program helps them remain competitive.

The bonus money comes from the $31 million in savings. About 100 employees who've worked less than six months or have disciplinary issues aren't eligible.
