JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The victim that was allegedly involved in shoplifting at a local WalMart died after his vehicle crashed, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO said Phillip Bryant, 30, was being held by store loss prevention officers at the WalMart located at the River City Market Place for allegedly stealing merchandise.
According to JSO, the victim fought off the officers and then got rid of the merchandise.
Bryant fled in a vehicle and officers reported seeing that same vehicle traveling out of control on Main Street.
The officer tried to catch up with Bryant, but decided to stop the effort after finding that Bryant was driving too recklessly.
Another officer passed Bryant, going the opposite direction from him, and said he saw Bryant travel off and over the flyover ramp. The deputy went to help Bryant and called Jacksonville Fire and Rescue.
Bryant was pronounced dead at the scene.
