JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- More than 1,000 people participated Saturday in the "Walk to Stop Diabetes" in Riverside.
Walkers and runners covered a four mile course along the beautiful St. Johns River going over the Acosta and Main Street bridges.
They helped raise money for the American Diabetes Association.
It was expected to raise around $400,000 to help find a cure for diabetes and promote awareness of the disease.
More than 25 million Americans have diabetes -- about 8 per cent of the population.
Around 300,000 people have diabetes in Florida, but don't know they have it.
