TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- This holiday season, you are getting an unexpected gift at the gas pump.

Gas prices are at their lowest levels in a year.

The average price at the pump is $3.24 a gallon in Florida. That's down nearly 10 cents in just the last week.

Gas prices have been steadily dropping over the past two months as demand fell off and oil prices declined.

Brenda Smith of AAA Auto Club Group says you can expect prices at the pump to continue to drop through the end of the year.

"We think that the national average could be anywhere from $3.20 to $3.40. That would be nationwide. Here in Florida, we're continuing to see gasoline prices drop day by day, so Santa Claus has been very good to us here with gasoline prices."

Motorist Ray Bartell welcomes the lower gas prices because he has a long drive to work every day.

"It's been good for me because I commute a good distance to work every week. I've got a 40-minute drive to Jefferson County so, yeah, it's been helpful."

AAA reports some areas in the Southeast have already seen gas prices drop below $3 a gallon.
