JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Good news for you if your holiday wish list includes a new job! According to a local job market expert, many big companies are still actively hiring this holiday season...and that's contrary to the norm.
John Showalter with jobnewsjax.com said, "With budgets spent and heavy vacation schedules, hiring plans are often put on hold until January. That has especially been the case since 2008. This year appears to be an exception."
So, here's a look at who is hiring.
Flagler Hospital has over 50 openings in specialized and non-specialized jobs ranging from cafeteria supervisor to bio-med technician.
Waddell & Reed, an asset management and financial planning firm, is hiring 15 financial advisors.
The Pantry Inc., which is a convenience store chain, is looking for all kinds of manager trainees from store sales managers to district sales managers. The Pantry has 25 job openings.
And, BAE Systems, which makes body armor, combat helmets, etc., has 50 openings in Jacksonville. It needs maintenance mechanics.
And Convergys has 200 openings locally at its call centers.
In all, that adds up to 340 jobs locally just at those big businesses.
