JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Does college still pay off? And how do you get a good return on that investment? We all know college can get pretty expensive so, of course, you would hope your child chooses a career that will actually get him or her a job...right?

Well, according to a new report from the Georgetown Center on Education, here are some jobs or career paths you might want to advise your child to avoid.

Architecture has a high unemployment rate, mainly because of the collapse of the construction and home building industry.

Unemployment is also high for those in non-technical majors like the arts, social science and public policy. But, if your child wants to be an engineer gets some good internships, he or she is golden.

Okay, here's a sample of the jobs that are out there right now in the Jacksonville area.

Aerotek has four positions, from fiberglass finisher to CNC Router Operator. Fed Ex has two jobs: project tech. special engineer and sr. tech specialist.

I-Tech Personnel has seven jobs listed at its staffing services company for work at JTA. Jobs like public information officer, inspector, buyer, industrial engineer and aircraft assembler.

I found all those jobs on the WorkSourceFL site.

And, if you are looking for a nursing job, River Garden is looking for a RN house supervisor, CNAs, LPN's and RNs, according to jobnewsjax.

Don't forget Kohl's is hiring 170 people for their new store in Yulee, opening in March. There are job fairs being offered for those right now. For the times and locations just check my story from last week.

Home Depot is hiring seasonal workers right now. For the Home Depot jobs you need to apply on-line.  And, Wendy's is looking for shift managers for stores all over Jacksonville.
