JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Positive news for those looking for work this summer: A Career Builder survey says 30 percent of employers plan to hire seasonal help. Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown is helping summer employment as well.

Through the first session of the Mayor's Summer Jobs program, 178 young adults have jobs. Most of these jobs are with Jacksonville Parks and other city departments.

The second session starts June 24 and lasts six weeks. Participants can get jobs with organizations such as the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, Jacksonville Electric Authority and the Jacksonville Port Authority.

The program helps to create a positive work experience, provide exposure to potential career fields and help teach business etiquette.
This will be many participants' first job and even their first pay check.
